Description
The newly established three-year degree course in Management for Sustainability stems from the growing need, recognized at national and international level, for professionals with managerial skills who are able to combine economic objectives, social responsibility, and environmental constraints, and to operate effectively in processes of transformation and sustainable innovation, in line with the evolution of the University's educational offering.
The degree program stands out for its explicit focus on sustainability management, avoiding overlap with courses that are predominantly technical and scientific in nature and offering a recognizable educational profile that is consistent with the evolution of the labor market.
The educational path is structured according to an interdisciplinary and progressive approach and is characterized by the integration of economic and business skills and a systematic focus on the environmental and social dimensions of organizational decision-making and management processes.
Humanities activities are also included, with particular reference to cognitive sciences and sociological and political science disciplines, which provide tools for understanding human behavior, social dynamics, and the ethical implications of sustainability.
Finally, these areas are complemented by an introductory course in science, which provides the necessary foundations for interpreting the connections between human activities, natural capital, and sustainability, enabling students to understand the environmental impact of economic and managerial decisions.
Teaching adopts a blended approach, combining face-to-face activities (one-third of the total credits for the course) and distance learning activities (two-thirds of the total credits for the course), both synchronous and asynchronous.
Strengths
The course provides interdisciplinary training in business economics and organizational management with a focus on sustainability and the circular economy. The program integrates traditional economic and management knowledge with scientific and humanistic knowledge and skills, offering a solid understanding of sustainable and circular business models, the dynamics of economic systems, and strategies for ecological transition.
The course is designed to respond to the growing demand for skills related to ecological transition, social responsibility, and sustainable resource management, helping to reduce the mismatch between emerging labor market needs and educational offerings. The profile is designed to operate in complex and internationalized organizational contexts, supporting companies and institutions in their paths of sustainable innovation and opening up to global markets, with an active role in functions dedicated to sustainability governance.
Job opportunities
Graduates will have the knowledge and skills necessary to fill the professional role of Sustainability Manager, who performs managerial and operational activities related to sustainability and social responsibility and is involved in supporting the definition of sustainability strategies, identifying the organizational roles responsible for sustainability, applying circular economy principles and tools, measuring the organization's sustainability performance and social and environmental impact, stakeholder engagement, and internal and external sustainability communication (e.g., sustainability reports).
In line with the characteristics of the professional profile to be developed, the degree program develops technical-managerial, analytical, cross-disciplinary, and project management skills for ecological and circular transition in private and public organizations in the profit and non-profit sectors.
Career opportunities therefore mainly concern cross-cutting and decision-making support functions, with particular reference to the areas of sustainability and social responsibility, administration and corporate finance, management control and planning, human resources organization and management, as well as marketing and communication.
