The first edition of the Master in Servitization is organised in collaboration with the University of Bergamo.

The two Universities developed during the years, thanks to joint initiatives of research and education, high expertise on servitization themes, being a national and international point of reference for the industrial and academic community.

After 20 years of partnership on servitization themes of the manufacturing sector, in 2022 the Universities of Bergamo, Brescia, Firenze and Piemonte Orientale specifically established the  Inter-University Research Center for the development of new business opportunities through advanced service management strategies - ASAP, which is a development  of the ASAP Service Management Forum, started in 2005, a community for research, education, networking and transfer in the servitization field and in the service offer associated with production and industrial goods.

ASAP is the national, and one of the international, point of reference about the servitization theme in the areas of innovation, planning, provision and management of service offer with a multidisciplinary point of view, transversal to the different business sectors.

Educational and professional goals

The educational goals and potential jop opportunities are:

  • the Servitization, meaning the power shift of business strategy of the manufacturing enterprises from industrial goods to service offer, is a field of extreme interest for management education, based on its economic role, its social and environmental impact and the present technological innovation process, as well as the change of demand and the client’s features.
  • the power shift of business orientation towards services arises as a response to the inevitable transformation of the present competitive environment. However, following a servitization strategy requires meaningful changes in the attitude and in the strategic and managing principles, new expertise and skills in people, and also different cultures, organisations and processes.
  • as a consequence, it is necessary to develop new education projects focused on the Service Manager, that management figure entirely in charge not only of monitoring the usual activities of the post-sales service in support networks or in the parent company, but also of the development, launch and management of more advanced services, for example in the pay for use or rental areas.
  • usually the Service Manager’s responsibilities are about both technical aspects and management duties. These also include, among others, strategic (such us the definition of the services portfolio), organizational (such as the management and control of processes and the staff management), planning and control decisions.
  • the need for this professional figure is in significant increase, based on the increasing demand of experts, in different industrial fields, because of the evolution of new servitization strategies, oriented towards the sustainability and favoured by the technological innovation. The mission of the Master programme is, therefore, to train Service Managers of the future in order to respond to a currently neglected training gap.
