PROCEDURE FOR ARRIVAL, THE STAY, ENROLMENT OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AND RELATIVE RECOGNITION OF QUALIFICATIONS, FOR HIGHER EDUCATION IN ITALY

Rules for entrance and stay in Italy

If you are a student from a European Union country you must be in possession of a valid identity document for the entire period of stay in Italy and adequate health coverage also valid for Italy.

If you are a student from a non-EU country and do not reside in Italy, you must apply for an entry visa for study purposes (postgraduate).

To apply for a study visa you must:

• be admitted to the University Master’s

• pre-enrol online via the Universitaly portal: in the application, you must indicate the University of Eastern Piedmont and choose the Master’s programme you are admitted to; you will also need to indicate the Embassy/Consulate where you will request an entry visa for Italy, and attach the required documents.

When the documentation attached to the application is complete, the University will make it available to the Italian authority indicated when entering the data on Universitaly.

Following the aforementioned submission by the University, you must take steps to ask the Embassy/authority to issue an entry visa for study reasons, with validity related to the duration of the course.

If you are a student from a non-EU country and you already reside in Italy, you can enrol if you have an EU permit for long-term residents (former ‘Carta di Soggiorno’) or a residence permit for:

  • Employment or freelance work
  • Family reasons;
  • Political asylum, subsidiary protection
  • Religious reasons.

If you have held a residence permit for study reasons for at least one year, you can enrol if the permit is among those accepted for renewal (for example, a study permit issued for an Italian language course is not renewable).

Request for residence permit

Upon your arrival in Italy, within eight working days of entry, you must apply for a residence permit from the competent Police Headquarters (check if you have to submit the application for a residence permit only after concluding any period of self-isolation). This obligation exists if you will stay in Italy for a period exceeding 90 days.

To complete the registration, a copy of the receipt of request for the residence permit must be sent by email to the Master’s Helpdesk.

Once the residence permit has been collected, a copy of this must be sent by email to the contact person at the Sportello Master
